BABEL

Last Month I took a group of lovely American Women around the Cape on a culinary adventure...and what an adventure it was. We were lucky enough to eat at places like The Pot Luck Club, The Greenhouse, The Boat House with Bruce Robertson, The Tasting Room, La Residence, Fresh at Paul Cluver, The Pavilion at The Marine, Ellerman House.... and every meal was more mind blowing than the next (with some MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS!!!) but being the Vegetarian of the group....BABEL was my ultimate indulgence!!!!

BABEL and Babylonstoren in general, is all about the Garden and the 200 hectares farm. They grow  vegetables and fruits I have never seen in my life and the best part is ....THEY GROW IT....WE EAT IT !!!

Guests can choose from an abundance of green, fruit, herbs (the most fragrant ones!!!) yellow and red vegetables, and leaves. Because the offering of vegetables and fruits changes daily...you select a colour or a combination of two or three and they serve you raw or lightly steamed with salad dressings of the day.
For the non-vegetarian (you will most likely become one after eating at BABEL!) they offer poultry, beef, lamb, fish, venison and pork dishes that even for a vegetarian looked mouth watering (check out the pork belly before it was devoured by my ladies!)

The dishes are so interesting and tasty, you spend the entire lunch talking about the food. WOW! YUMMY!  AMAZING !! seem to be favorite words during our lunch...

Babylonstoren recently started producing wines as well and have opened a very interesting wine tasting room, complete with a bakery, charcuterie & cheese rooms. There you can sip their Rose', Viognier and Shiraz....I was sure to purchase all 3 of course!!! ....delicious...like everything they do at Babylonstoren.

BABYLONSTOREN is in the Stellebosch area.
BOOKINGS are essential- they are always very full, so don't just show up...or you will be disappointed.
You can also go for a GARDEN TOUR and a glass of wine, or enjoy a light meal or cake at their Glasshouse! whatever you do....GO! it's truly a special place.

La Cle des Montagnes!

La Cle Des Montagnes is a great addition to Franschhoek and it redefines the meaning of "home away from home". The very fabulous Sarah Ord has done it again.... with her very unique touches throughout the villas, fantastic patterns, warm colors, gigantic fireplace and the most comfortable beds ever! Our villa had 3 oversized en suite bedrooms + an enormous kitcken/dining room connected to a huge living area only by a fantastic fireplace. The house comes with a private Butler (the fabulous Frank) and a housekeeper (and a private chef if you want one!). A perfect place for a family or a group of friends. La Grange (our villa) is one of 4....the other 3 will be completed sometimes in June. Get your "cle" (key) soon!!!

Feeling French.....?

Chelsea Village in Wynberg must be the quaintest (is there such a word?) neighborhood in Capetown. Last week, on one of my many mornings of "discovery" I came across FRENCH ACCENT a little gem tucked in the courtyard behind L'Orangerie and stocking on all things "French" and smelling delicious!!

They also stock on luxury teas, Soaps, Shower Gels, Lotions, etc from Italy & Portugal but mainly French of course.
